Kenwood earns share of region championship with win




Kenwood claimed a share of the Region 6-4A championship after dropping Lipscomb Academy 26-24 Friday night.

The loss is the first for Lipscomb in region play as Kenwood finishes the regular season 7-3 and 4-1 in Region 6-4A. Quarterback Antwuan Branch had 342 yards on 29 carries and four touchdowns, steamrolling Lipscomb.

Both teams advance to the 4A playoffs next week.

Hillwood 14, Montgomery Central 9

Montgomery Central lost out on an outside chance of earning a first round Class 4A playoff home game after Hillwood knocked off the Indians 14-9 in a Region 6-4A regular season finale game Friday night.

It was a must-win for Hillwood, which advances to the playoffs. Montgomery Central, having snapped a four-game losing streak last week against Northwest, finishes the regular season 5-5 and 2-3 in region play.

Northwest 28, Creek Wood 0

Northwest did what it needed to do to have a playoff shot. The Vikings dominated Creek Wood Friday night in a Region 6-4A game, but because Montgomery Central lost to Hillwood, that result eliminated the Vikings from the postseason.

Quarterback Micah Bennett led the Vikings (5-5, 2-3) with one passing touchdown and one rushing. Quinton Poole paced Creek Wood (3-7, 0-4) with 65 yards off 18 carries.

Brentwood 42, Clarksville High 10

Clarksville High’s season came to a close after losing to Brentwood Friday in a Region 7-5A regular season finale.

The Bruins will move into the 5A playoffs while Clarksville, which had five of its six victories forfeited three weeks ago, will sit out this year’s postseason after finishing 1-9 and 1-6 in region play.

Madisonville-North Hopkins 28, Fort Campbell 27

Madisonville had to rally to pull off a victory Friday against Fort Campbell in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Falcons ran for 459 yards. Two players rushed for more than 100 yards. Ju’aun Joiner finished with 159 yards on the ground while Denorious Buchanan added 136 yards rushing.

Fort Campbell (2-8) will travel to face Elizabethtown in the first round of the 3A playoffs in Kentucky.

Dickson County 42, West Creek 6

Dickson County handed West Creek is final loss of the 2015 football season, dropping the Coyotes Friday night.

West Creek ends the season 1-9 and 1-6 in region play.

Camden 47, Stewart County 7

Camden dropped Stewart County in Friday’s Region 6-3A regular season finale.

The Rebels were eliminated from the playoffs two weeks ago and finish the season 3-7 and only 1-5 in league play.

Region cross country

For the fourth straight year, Rossview High’s girls qualified for the state cross country meet after finishing Region 5 runner-up Thursday in Goodlettsville.

The Lady Hawks finished with 52 team points as Station Camp captured the region title with 45 points. Northeast finished seventh out of 11 teams while Clarksville High took 10th and Northwest finished 11th.

Rossview’s Anna Grose finished region runner-up individually after taking second in a time of 20:26, while teammate Sara Martin took ninth overall (21-50). In all, Rossview girls had five finish in the top 20, including Hannah Lunemann (11th), Amanda Herrera (14th) and Cassandra Moore (16th). Jessica Roberts (21st) and Bethany Rich (32nd) also had strong region showings.

Station Camp captured the boys’ region title with 60 points, followed by Wilson Central (62) and Henry County (77). Rossview’s boys finished sixth, followed by CHS (9th), Northwest (11th), Kenwood (12th), West Creek (13th) and Northeast (14th).

Ryan Gasaway advanced to state as an individual. He had the highest region finish among all Clarksville-area runners, taking 14th overall in a time of 17:53.
