Megan Kleist’s grand slam broke open a close game as Kimberly went on to beat Hortonville 8-3 in a Fox Valley Association softball game Tuesday in Hortonville.

Kleist hit her slam in the top of the fourth inning to give the Papermakers a 7-0 lead.

“That kind of broke it open,” Hortonville co-coach Jeff Lebeck said.

Kleist also hit a solo home run and finished with five RBI.

Lexi Campshure was 3-for-4 for Hortonville.

Abby Menting pitched a complete game for Kimberly and scattered nine hits. She did not strike out a batter and walked one.

“We hit a lot of them right at them,” Lebeck said. “They played good defense. They’re a solid defensive team.”
