Army All-American running back Kyle Porter missed a month with an injury for No. 7 Katy (Texas). He’s making every moment count in the postseason.
Porter had five touchdowns as the Tigers downed Manvel 35-7 in a 6A-II region final that almost didn’t happen.
Earlier this week, Katy (14-0) self-reported that it had used an ineligible player in the previous playoff round against Friendswood. At an emergency hearing, the UIL — the state’s governing body — decided to put Katy on probation and disqualify the player from the rest of the season but opted against forcing Katy to forfeit the game.
Instead, the Tigers moved on and eliminated Manvel for the third consecutive season.

Porter had four TDS in the first half on four short runs and then busted open a 58-yarder late in the game to close out Manvel.
Katy’s defense, which has been a key part of its success, forced turnovers and has now held 13 of its 14 opponents to less than 10 points.
