La Salle football coach Jim Hilvert told Cincinnati.com this morning the Lancers will be the underdog entering Friday night’s Division II state semifinal against Perrysburg.
The Lancers (11-2) play Perrysburg (13-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Piqua with a trip to Columbus on the line. The game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
La Salle, the reigning Division II state champion, is making it second straight state semifinal appearance. Perrysburg is making its first state semifinal appearance.
Perrysburg is ranked No. 1 in the season’s final Associated Press state poll. La Salle is ranked No. 4.
Perrysburg is led by quarterback Trevor Hafner (over 2,500 passing yards and 32 touchdowns along with 800 yards rushing) and linebacker Chaz Westfall.
“You can just tell when you watch the film they are a team that is well-coached,” Hilvert said. “It’s about fundamentals and technique. We have our work cut out for us. We know that’s why we are the underdog. We are excited about playing that role. We have a lot of stuff to prove to people that this 2015 team is just as good as the 2014 team. I think our guys have that chip on their shoulder to be able to show people.”
Cincinnati.com will preview the game on Thursday.
