The Tigers roared early and often as they scored an impressive 42-6 win over the longtime rival Cowboys in a non-district meeting. The kickoff was delayed an hour due to lightning.
Clewiston wasted no time setting the tone for the game when sophomore tailback Menta’ Jones took a handoff and raced 58 yards to score on the first play from scrimmage. In limited playing time, Jones ended the night with 123 yards on 5 carries.
Tigers senior quarterback Davis Witt scored on a 1-yard sneak and also hooked up with flanker Tyrin Summers on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Witt sat out the second half, finishing the evening with five completions on nine attempts for 85 yards.
The Cowboys only offense of the night came on a nifty 91-yard kickoff return by Tray Williams.
The Tigers defense was tough all night, holding the LaBelle to 55 rushing yards on 18 tries and only 18 yards in the air.
Tigers coach Pete Walker was happy with the effort, saying “‘Our kids played hard and we saw some big improvements. We got a lot of players into the action and given our short work week due to rain, I think we were sharp.”
