MORGAN CITY — Two goals in the second half and a splendid defense helped Bolton notch a 2-0 victory over Morgan City in the LHSAA Division II boys soccer quarterfinals Monday.
Junior Brady Laborde’s header finished a corner kick by senior John Duck to make it 1-0 five minutes into the second half. A couple of minutes later, Duck played a through ball to sophomore Nic Mboungou, who finished with a sublime volley to make it 2-0.
Bolton’s defense — led by Colin Ashby, Will Passman, Laborde and Gloire Mboungou — held Morgan City scoreless, and Jacob Guillot had three saves to preserve the shutout.
The victory pushed Bolton, the No. 3 seed, into the boys soccer semifinals for the first time in school history. The Bears will host No. 7 and defending champion Ben Franklin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Ben Franklin defeated second-seeded St. Michael, 4-3, on Sunday.
In last season’s quarterfinals, eighth-seeded Ben Franklin traveled to Alexandria and upset the unbeaten and No. 1-seeded Bears.
