Mountain Home put together a hot-shooting streak in the second quarter to give the Lady Bombers a big halftime lead over Brookland on Tuesday night.

And the strong frame propelled the Lady Bombers to their first victory of the season, a 75-50 win over the Lady Bearcats in the first round of the Focus Bank Knockout Tournament at Greene County Tech High School in Paragould.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Lady Bombers built on a five-point lead in the second, using a 19-5 run to take a 19-point advantage into the halftime break.

Junior Micah Hudson drilled a 3-pointer and added a layup to send the Lady Bombers’ lead to double digits for the first time at 25-15. With Mountain Home ahead 29-20, junior Alivia O’Brien got in on the scoring for the Lady Bombers.

O’Brien hit a short jumper and knocked down a 3 to extend the lead to 34-20 with :52 left in the half. Cassie Martin hit a pair of free throws for the Lady Bombers, and O’Brien nailed another trey at the buzzer to give Mountain Home a 39-20 halftime cushion after it scored the final 12 of the half.

Hudson scored Mountain Home’s first five of the second half, with her second bucket pushing the Lady Bombers’ lead to 44-24.

Mountain Home ended the third quarter with a 9-2 run as O’Brien converted a 3-point play, Riley Walker came up with a steal and layup and Vinessa Daniel scored a pair. The Lady Bombers led 58-31 going into the final quarter.

Brookland’s Hannah Lovrien hit three 3-pointers early in the fourth as the Lady Bearcats climbed as close as 58-42 before the Lady Bombers put the game away.

Hudson led the Lady Bombers with 18 points, while sophomore Hannah Pfeifer added 15, Daniel tallied 13 and O’Brien found double figures with 11.

Lovrien hit four second-half treys and led the Lady Bearcats with a game-high 19 points.

The Lady Bombers will face Tuesday’s winner between host Greene County Tech and Kennett, Mo., at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The teams were even early with the Lady Bombers taking their first lead at 9-8 when Hudson completed a 3-point play with 4:05 left in the opening quarter.

After Haley Morgan gave the lead back to Brookland, Hudson drained a 3-pointer to give Mountain Home a 12-10 edge.

Brookland took the lead once more before Pfeifer got involved for the Lady Bombers. The sophomore guard scored the last eight of the first quarter for Mountain Home, including a pair of treys, and the Lady Bombers held a 20-15 lead after one.
