The Izard County Lady Cougars dropped a tough nonconference matchup to the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds, 66-56, on Friday night at Marmaduke.
The Lady Cougars (20-7) — No. 6 in Class 1A in the latest Arkansas-Democrat Gazette rankings — were outscored 18-9 in the fourth quarter by the Lady Greyhounds (23-2) — ranked No. 1 in Class 2A.
The Lady Cougars fought hard throughout the game despite foul problems plaguing both Kennedy Cooper and Jen King. The Lady Cougars were whistled for 18 fouls, while the host Greyhounds picked up only 10 fouls in the game.
The Lady Cougars trailed only 48-47 entering the fourth quarter but Marmaduke took over in the final stanza. Cooper, a sophomore with scholarship offers from Arkansas State and Harding University, led all scorers with 23 points, and Lauren Jones added 12 for Izard County. King contributed seven points, Alex King scored five, Kristen Caraway tallied four, Natalie Everett had three and Erica Sac chipped in two.
The Lady Greyhounds were led by Western Kentucky signee Sidnee Bopp with 22 points.
The Junior Lady Cougars fell 38-29 to Marmaduke. Izard County trailed 28-10 at the half, but made a furious rally in the second half, outscoring the Junior Lady Greyhounds 19-10.
The Junior Lady Cougars (11-6) were led by Sam King with 15 points.
