CALEDONIA – Zach Lehner fired a no-hitter over five innings and River Valley began its Division II baseball tournament with a 23-0 crushing of Marion Franklin on Tuesday.
The Vikings (10-15) advance to play at Jonathan Alder at 5 p.m. Thursday in a sectional-title game.
Lehner struck out 14.
Marion Franklin was guilty of 14 errors in four innings.
The Vikes tallied 12 runs in the second inning and added 11 more over the next two innings to end the game with the 10-run mercy rule.
Weston Perry and Karac Doubikin each recorded three RBIs to lead RV. Doubikin swatted a pair of hits while Perry, Alec Branstetter, Travis Eickemeyer, Alan Roth, Bryon Doubikin and A.J. Isler each poked one hit. Branstetter’s hit was a triple.
High school baseball: Ready 1, North Union 0
COLUMBUS – Jake Blevins tossed a two-hitter, walked only one, and did not allow an earned run but his North Union team lost 1-0 to Columbus Bishop Ready in a Div. III sectional game.
Ready scratched out a run in the first inning to sideline the Wildcats (9-12).
North Union was limited to three hits. They were singles from Matt Skeins, Riley Hughes, and Jordan Jones.
High school baseball: Ridgedale 7, Ridgemont 2
MORRAL – Derek Lust threw a six-hitter and Ridgedale beat Ridgemont 7-2 in a regular-season contest.
Lust struck out five and improved his record to 2-1.
Kole Fisher was the big batter for the Rockets (11-14) with three singles and two RBIs. Blake Dennis had a single and an RBI, and Mo Britton, Alex Eldred, Jacob Cannon, Cole Blair, Lust, and Trevor Wren each added one hit.

Teams from the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference were 0-5 in other tournament games on Tuesday.
Marion Harding fell 15-1 to Pickerington Central in Div. I while Buckeye Valley lost 8-6 to Amanda-Clearcreek in Div. II.
In Div. III, Northmor lost 12-3 to Worthington Christian, Cardington-Lincoln was edged 1-0 by Columbus Academy, and East Knox dropped a 14-10 decision to Madison Plains.
Elgin won a regular-season game 8-3 over Galion while Fredericktown, also in regular-season action, was beaten 8-2 by Bloom-Carroll in a game matching the top district tournament seeds in Div. III and II, respectively.
High school softball: Highland 3, Madison Plains 0
LONDON – Highland moved on in Div. III tournament action with a 3-0 conquest of Madison Plains.
The Lady Scots (12-10) will play at Northridge at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a sectional crown. Madison Plains is 16-10.
Megan Oder hurled a three-hitter for Highland. She struck out 16 and walked only two.
The Lady Scots scored twice in the first inning and added another tally in the seventh.
Hailey Moore singled and doubled to lead Highland at the plate.
High school softball: Other games
Pickerington North topped Marion Harding 14-5 in a Div. I game.
In Div. III, Centerburg outslugged Africentric 28-10, East Knox downed Patriot Academy 7-0, Elgin lost 10-2 to Utica, and Northmor defeated Amanda-Clearcreek 6-0. In Div. IV, Ridgedale lost to Granville Christian 10-8 and Fairbanks fell to Grove City Christian 7-6.
High school track: MOAC Meet
Mount Gilead has the lead in the Blue Division boys and girls team standings while Galion’s girls and River Valley’s boys top the field in the Red Division following the first day of the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Meet.
Preliminaries and finals of six events were held in each division at Mount Gilead and Pleasant on Tuesday. The finals are to be held at Pleasant on Thursday.
