Jason Antalek tossed a complete game and the Beacon High School baseball team earned a comeback victory on the road to advance to the quarterfinals of the Section 1 Class A tournament Thursday.
Beacon, the No. 11 seed, defeated No. 6 Yorktown, 4-3, scoring the go-ahead run on a two-out balk in the top of the sixth inning.
Beacon trailed 3-1 before Justin Warner’s two-run single in the fifth inning tied the game. Rafael Figuereo came home as the winning run.
Brendon Malouf and Ryan Frost each went 2 for 4 in the win.
Beacon coach Bob Atwell said he was “amazed at how the boys overcame adversity and were able to stay together as a team and work hard to battle back.”
The Bulldogs (13-8-1) visit No. 3 Lincoln in Yonkers on Saturday.
Arlington 11, White Plains 2 — The No. 3 Admirals marched into the Section 1 Class AA quarterfinals by defeating the 14th seed.
“It was a tight game,” Arlington coach Darrell Flynn said. “We kind of opened it up on a couple of their miscues and some timely hits from us. It was a good opening-round win and we look forward to Saturday.”
Arlington (14-5) will take on No. 11 New Rochelle Saturday in Freedom Plains.
Christian Johnson went 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs against White Plains, while Dan Schweitzer was 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs, and Marc Barbieri was 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs.
Steve Gerringer earned the win, allowing four hits in five innings.
Solomon Schechter 14, Haldane 3 — Justin Ferdico (RBI) and Aidan Siegel (run scored) each went 2 for 3 in Haldane’s road loss in a Section 1 Class C semifinal in Hartsdale.
The Blue Devils finished the season 6-15, and are scheduled to return 16 of their 17 players.
“We were a very young team with one senior,” Haldane coach Tom Virgadamo said. “I think we have a very bright future ahead.”
