2015 John Jay Indians
Coach — Peter Neidell
How many years have you been coaching with your current team? 15th varsity season.
What was your final record last season and where did you finish in the playoffs? 8-7-1 and lost in the Class A outbracket game.
Who are your key returning players?
– Abi Galligan, defender
– Ian Woods, midfielder
– Ryan Wanek, defender
– Eilon Silver-Frankel, forward
– Nick Giardina, midfield/fwd
Who are the key players that you lost to graduation?
– Charlie Doany, four-year varsity player in the midfield
– Dan Minnock, two-year goalkeeper
Did you gain or lose any players from the U.S. Academy system? Two players are playing academy and not HS soccer. One of them had been a two-year starter in the midfield at John Jay. Both players have stated they will play HS soccer their senior year, but that is a year away.
What do you consider to be your team’s strengths? Teamwork, hard work and discipline. Technically, this year’s team should be able to move the ball well. Tactically, we have several players with a strong soccer IQ. Ideally, we would like to be able to possess the ball with a purpose and work on being patient when in possession to break down the opposition.
What are some areas of concern? Replacing the key players lost to graduation. Goal scoring is always an area of concern.
Who is the most skilled offensive player on your team? We have several technically talented attacking players so its difficult to determine who is the most skilled offensive player. We do return our leading goal scorer from the last two years in Eilon Silver-Frankel
The best defender? Ryan Wanek, three-year starter, strong and leaves it all on the field.
The fastest? Eilon Silver-Frankel, Cole Verbeke and Jayson Sementilli would all give each other a great race
The biggest hustler? Nick Giardina is a worker and practices like game day every day.
Which team is your biggest rival(s)? Several rivals, most recently renewed it with Somers. At this point, the focus is on preparing for the first game of the season on 9/4 at Mahopac.
