2015-16 Carmel Rams
Coach — Seth Harrison

How many years have you been coaching at your current school? I’ve been coaching at Carmel for 13 years, this will be my fourth season as head coach.

How did you team do last season? Last season our dual meet record was 18-5 and we were league champs in Conference 1 League A.

Who are your top returning wrestlers? Kevin Knox is a returning sectional champion and intends on going “back-to-back” in the upcoming season and further distinguishing himself as a two-time section champ. Alex Leone had a break-out season last year, placing second in the section and eighth at Eastern States and plans to build upon that success this year. Seniors Greg Purdy, Dom Caporale, Anthony Schneider and Ahken Chu are all poised to have a strong final season in each of their respective weight classes. Returning underclassmen such as Vlad Panschishak, Dorian McMath and Nick Ferrara will continue to make significant contributions within our lineup throughout the season. I believe that each of the above named wrestlers has the ability to earn all-section honors by the end of the season. The coaching staff is equally encouraged to have an additional group of incoming and returning underclassmen wrestlers. We are confident that they will integrate themselves into our lineup and make significant contributions throughout the season.

Who are the top wrestlers that you lost to graduation? Tristan Welton at 120 lbs.

What is the strength of your lineup? We have a good balance of experience throughout our lineup. Not only do we have strong leadership and experience within our senior class, but we also have a group of underclassmen that are returning with several years of varsity experience to further build upon.

What will be the biggest challenge for your team? With so many returning wrestlers it could serve as a challenge for some of our athlete’s to break into our everyday lineup. With that, we have scheduled more competitions than ever before and as such we hope that every weekend there will be opportunities for each of our wrestlers to compete.

Will you host any tournaments? We will be one of the four host sites for divisionals this postseason.

Which team(s) is your top rival? Each of the opponents within our league serves as a formidable rival.

What are your team goals for the season? We have put an emphasis on varying our competition this season and we will be wrestling out of section more than we ever have in any past years. We are preparing to have strong finishes in the tournaments in which we will be competing. Our program is working towards defending our status as returning league champs and we believe our lineup is capable of strong showing in sectionals this season.

On deck: New Rochelle

I’ll be posting at least one of these per day leading up to the start of the season at the end of the month. Coaches, if you did not receive a capsule email and would like to participate, please fill out the questions below and send them to me at vmercoglia@lohud.com.
