2015-16 Mamaroneck Tigers
Coaches — Femi Wheeler and Scott Gilberti
How many years have you been coaching at your current school? This is our first year as co-head coaches after two years of being assistant coaches.
How did you team do last season? Last year our team took ninth at sectionals, which was the highest we have ever placed at the tournament. Additionally, we had four All-Section wrestlers (another program high) and our first-ever state champion, Youssif Hemida.
Who are your top returning wrestlers? We are returning Crew Fullerton (All-Section), as well Chris Sileo, Matt Williams and Mike McGowan.
Who are the top wrestlers that you lost to graduation? We graduated Youssif Hemida, Alex Sanchez, Max Valera, Roger Ransom and Carolyn Salominie.
What is the strength of your lineup? We have a very deep line up at the middleweights where we can interchange a wrestler who may have a better style matchup.
What will be the biggest challenge for your team? Our biggest challenge for our team this year will be helping our new wrestlers build a strong foundation while at the same time refining our top tier athletes’ skills.
Will you host any tournaments? Yes, this year we will be hosting the 42nd annual Tiger Tournament, which could potentially be the toughest it has ever been.
Which team(s) is your top rival? We believe all teams within our league are our top rivals. It has been almost 15 years since our last league title and we want to be back in contention for that very soon.
What are your team goals for the season? Our team goals for this year are to win half of the matches we wrestle in and to place in the top 15 at sectionals.
