The Viola Longhorns fell 11-2 to the host Armorel Tigers in the championship game of the 1A Region 2 Tournament on Monday night at Armorel.

The Longhorns (25-2) scored both of their runs in the third inning. Jon Martin singled, Joey Prinner walked, Dalton Lund drove in a run with a single and Prinner scored when Brody Ninemire reached on an error.

The Tigers tacked on four runs in the third for a 7-2 lead, then added two runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings.

Lane Guffey took the loss for Viola, striking out five and walking just two, but allowing three hits and three earned runs over two innings on the mound. Ninemire allowed three hits and six runs over 21/3 innings, while Trevor Himschoot allowed two hits, three walks and one earned run over 22/3 innings.

Lund went 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Martin, Guffey and Corby May each added hits for Viola, which took a No. 2 seed into the state tournament at Taylor, where it was scheduled to face Southside-Bee Branch on Thursday.
