Longtime Butler coach Milan Perpich dies at age 88

Milan Perpich, who was the first baseball and varsity football coach at Butler High School, died Tuesday. He was 88.

Perpich coached the Butler football team from 1956-66, compiling a 48-48-4 record. His 1966 squad lost to Manual 33-6 in the Class 3-A state championship game.

Perpich coached baseball for 24 years at Gallatin County and Butler, posting a 330-174 record. Butler’s baseball field is named for Perpich, and he was inducted into the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 2001.

Perpich also ran the youth baseball and softball leagues at Shively Park in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
