Longtime Perry Meridian High School girls basketball assistant coach Howard Ely collapsed during the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s game against Cathedral and was rushed to a local hospital.
Perry Meridian athletic director Marty Johnson said Ely was taken away by ambulance. The game was stopped with less than a minute left.
Mike Armstrong, Perry Meridian’s head coach, tweeted late Wednesday night that Ely had suffered a heart attack and had a stent put in. Armstrong said he visited with Ely at the hospital and that his assistant was tired and resting.
