The Our Lady of Lourdes High School girls basketball team is Westchester County Center bound for the Section 1 Class AA semifinals.
The No. 3 Warriors beat No. 6 Fox Lane 56-44 at home Wednesday in the Section 1 Class AA quarterfinals. Fox Lane came into the game with a 12-game winning streak, which Lourdes stopped.
“I reminded the kids that they were going to come out confident,” Lourdes coach Al Viani said. “One of my kids said ‘we’ll just have to teach them how to lose again.’ And we went out and were able to do that.”
The Warriors (18-2) will play No. 7 Scarsdale Feb. 26 in the Class AA semifinals in White Plains at 6:30 p.m. The Warriors beat Scarsdale 54-41 on Jan. 19.
Emily Ferreri led the Warriors’ scoring effort Wednesday with 25 points. Teammates Maddy Siegrist (12 points), Katie Clarke (seven points) and Abby Weeks (five points, 12 rebounds) helped keep Lourdes out in front.
After trailing 11-10 after the first quarter, the Warriors turned it around, taking a 26-22 lead at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Lourdes held a 44-31 lead, enough for the Warriors to win.
“I was really happy with our offensive ball movement, we played good defense, but in the first half we struggled; missed some close shots,” Viani said. “We got a good lead in the third quarter and hung on from there.”
