Loyola got the 2015 season off to a rousing start with a 30-17 win over Cedar Creek in Ruston.
Quarterback Bishop George completed 14-of-20 throws for a career-high 212 yards and three scores to lead the Flyers (1-0).
Loyola got on the board first when George hit Pierce Easterling for a 14-yard score after a Cougar (0-1) fake punt attempt went awry. Josh Hawboldt nailed a 22-yard field goal for a 10-0 Loyola lead with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
George later found Easterling for a 10-yard score and Carter Windham for a 65-yard score. Windham finished out the Flyer scoring with an 18-yard TD run. Cedar Creek’s Jace Moss returned a Loyola fumble for a 70-yard score.
The Flyers never scored 30 points in a game last season.
Alexandria Senior High 54, Northwood 14: At Alexandria, despite a pair of touchdowns from speedster Marquez Stevenson the Falcons lost on the road and lost a number of players due to injuries.
“We have five kids in the hospital, three with broken legs,” Northwood coach Jim Gatlin said. “We looked like a MASH unit. It was a rough evening with a lot of bad luck.”
Stevenson scored on a 60-yard punt return and on a 42-yard Jet sweep for Northwood (0-1).
North Caddo 48, Logansport 32: At Vivian, quarterback Tymon Sanders rushed for four touchdowns and passed for three more in leading the Rebels (1-0) to the season-opening win. Wide receiver Adanious Jackson had 5 receptions for 74 yards and three scores. Sanders was 10-of-16 for 151 yards and added 124 yards rushing on the night.
“It was a great start for us and the kids played well,” North Caddo coach Chuck Dupee said. “We won the last two games of the regular season last year, so now we told the kids we’re on a three-game winning streak.”
Logansport (0-1) got a pair of scores from Madrid Johnson and one from Debell Crawford.
