The Lansing Catholic boys basketball team is trying to find its stride.
Matthew Fata is trying to help them get there.
“We’ve got a lot of talent,” said Fata, who was voted the LSJ athlete of the week. “Once we get our chemistry going and start playing well again as a team, I think we’ve got a lot of weapons we can use. That’s basically the point that we need to get to.”
It’s been a little difficult to get to that point because of the run to the state title game by the Cougars’ football team. Fata, who averaged 22.5 points in wins over Lakewood and Ionia last week, believes that’s played a role in Lansing Catholic’s 4-3 start.
“It was pretty tough. We played Okemos only having two full team practices,” Fata said of last month’s season opener. “I think pretty soon here we’re going to start getting our chemistry and start playing a lot better as a team, which usually comes with a lot of team practice which we’re starting to get.”
And the good thing for the Cougars is they are 3-0 in the CAAC White and control their own destiny.
“We like where we are right now,” Fata said. “We’ve got to come ready to play every single game in the White. We’ve got a game out at Fowlerville and we’re going to have to be ready to play. Every single night you’ve got to come ready to play and execute.”
