Male wasted no time putting away visiting Pleasure Ridge Park Thursday, jumping out to a 37-0 lead with 4:03 remaining in the first half, then cruising with a running clock to a 44-0 win that puts the Bulldogs at 7-0 heading into their bye week.

“We wanted the offense to come out and execute well,” said current Male and former PRP head coach Chris Wolfe. “That’s our big thing. It’s all about execution. We don’t try to trick people. They know what we’re trying to do. Ultimately we have to execute what we run and the guys executed well offensively the first half.”

On their first play from scrimmage, the Bulldogs scored on a 76-yard strike from Hayden Shelton to Devin Gentry. On their next drive, Gentry scored on a five-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 just 3:58 into the game.

When Male stuffed PRP and forced a punt, the special teams got in on the act as Keion Wakefield took a reverse and scampered 52 yards down the left sideline for a 21-0 advantage. The Homecoming crowd had barely settled into their seats as the Bulldogs blew it open with 5:57 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers did about the only thing they could do to stop the onslaught. They ran the football, and even ran it effectively, with runs of 14, 13, and 16 yards in first quarter.

“PRP has a really nice run game,” said Wolfe. “They hit a couple early on us. But we got the running clock and we were able to play some younger guys in the second half.”

Gentry scored his third touchdown on a two-yard run, Stephen Mayes earned the defense a safety and Shelton scored on a nine-yard run to seal the score.

From that point on, the two teams traded possessions until Aaron Dean-Thomas scored on a 12-yard run for the final margin with 1:04 left in the game.

Male is clicking on all cylinders. So is their open date coming at a good time?

“I think so,” said Wolfe. “We finish with St. X, Manual and Western. It’s a grind. We go hard in the summer time. Our guys needed a break. It’s good to hit it at 7-0 with three shutouts in a row. It’s good to give these guys a little break.”
