CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mallard Creek baseball picked up its first win of 2015 Monday, rallying back for a 5-4 win over Forestview.
Forestview (3-1) opened the scoring with a four-run third inning, putting the Mavs down early. Forestview’s Garrett Sutton drove in two of those runs, while Boone Owenby and Mason Fox brought the other Forestview runners home. Fox finished the game 2-4 from the plate with the Jaguars’ lone extra base hit.
Mallard Creek starter Richard Rogers had a tough outing, giving up 4 runs and walking 2 Forestview batters in just two and one-third innings pitched. Sutton’s performance on the mound was also solid, with the Forestview pitcher going 3 innings, surrendering just 1 run and 2 hits. Sutton struck out six Mallard Creek batters.
When Forestview went to the bullpen, Mallard Creek’s offense came to life. The Mavericks figured out the Jaguars’ relievers, scoring four runs against Dylan Smith in just a little over one inning. Mallard Creek was led by Javon Harbison and Justin Williams’ two hits apiece. The Mavericks had just two extra base hits in the victory.
Mallard Creek will host West Charlotte in a Tuesday doubleheader, opening the conference season for the Mavericks.
