CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mallard Creek is making the 2015 campaign more exciting than many fans and experts thought it would be.
The Mavericks won another thriller Friday night, pulling out a 22-21 overtime victory on the road at Vance.
Mallard Creek was up 7-0 at the half, with both defenses making stellar plays to slow down the high-powered offenses. Vance was staring a 14-point deficit in the face, but the Cougars rose up and stopped Mallard Creek on fourth and one.
The Mavericks needed a touchdown to stay alive after Vance hit pay dirt in the extra period. After scoring, Chauncery Bowman was given the opportunity to win it on a two-point conversion. Bowman battled his way into the endzone to keep the Mavericks alive in the Mecka race with the season winding down.
Mallard Creek will host A.L. Brown in a showdown for second place in the Mecka.
