Mamaroneck’s Kumar Nambiar was named New York State Class AA baseball player of the year Tuesday, July 14, 2015.

The awards keep rolling in for the two baseball state champions from the Lower Hudson Valley’s Section 1, Mamaroneck (Class AA) and Byram Hills (Class A), and Tuesday brought more good news.

Mamaroneck senior Kumar Nambiar was named the New York State Class AA player of the year by the New York State Sportswriters Association, while Byram junior Frankie Vesuvio earned the same honor in Class A. Both players were dual threats who made the state take notice with dominant outings on the mound and clutch hits at the plate. Nambiar was recently named an All-American by Louisville Slugger and Vesuvio was chosen as an All-American by CBS Sports’ MaxPreps.

The coach of the year awards also went to the state championship teams, with Mamaroneck’s Mike Chiapparelli being selected in Class AA and Byram’s Scott Saunders in Class A.

Due to Section 1’s success at the state level, dozens of locals were selected to the NYSSWA All-State teams.
