While there is a drop-off after Mamaroneck, Suffern and Pelham, the second tier is closer than I anticipated. I’m pretty sure we’re going to see a fair amount of movement week to week. There will be some changes with the rankings in the future, starting with them publishing on Sunday’s in The Journal News. I will also do a separate top eight for Division 1 and Division 2 in the weeks ahead.

Lohud Hockey Power Rankings

Week 1

1. Mamaroneck (2-0): Went up to Albany, scored a lot of goals, picked up a trophy.

2. Suffern (1-0): A comeback win over Pelham showed the Mounties are deeper than past seasons.

3. Pelham (1-1): Knocked off Scarsdale then started packing for another trip upstate.

4. Clarkstown (3-0): Only gave up three goals over the weekend at Guy Mathews Thanksgiving Invitational.

5. Rye (0-0): Garnets open the new season Thursday at White Plains.

6. Mahopac (2-0): Will have to prove itself and knock off a traditional power along the way.

7. Rye Country Day (0-0): Does any team in the region get more practice time?

8. Scarsdale (0-1): The Raiders are getting on the bus to visit RFA and CBA over the weekend.

9. Rye Town/Harrison (3-0): Many of the underclassmen who showed potential last season are following through.

10. New Rochelle (1-0): The Huguenots are feisty and only know one way to play the game.
