Just when it looked like Christian Brothers Academy had taken command of the Shore Conference Class A North race, Manalapan reeled the Colts back closer to the pack.
A two-run triple by Chris Rodriguez and a run-scoring double by Steve Hansen highlighted an eight-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning that wiped out a one-run deficit as the Braves outlasted CBA, 11-9, on Monday.
The result left CBA one game ahead of Marlboro in the divisional race.
CBA (11-2, 7-2) had just moved back into the No. 1 slot in the Asbury Park Press Top 10.
The eight-run sixth gave the Braves (11-5, 4-5) an 11-4 lead.
The Colts rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a three-run home run by Brandon Martorano and had runners on second and third with two out when Will Morgan lined out to Rodriguez at shortstop to end the game.
Matt Klepper had a two-run single and Ryan McGrane a run-scoring single in the first for Manalapan.
Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Jake Sadowitz was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
TR North 8, TR South 3: Ryan Larsen belted a three-run homer in the top of the fifth and a two-run double in the seventh and struck out nine in a complete-game pitching performance as the No. 2 Mariners (9-2, 8-1) defeated the No. 6 Indians (7-4, 6-3) to move two games ahead of both Toms River South and Jackson Memorial in Class A South.
Vinny Scrudato had a two-run single in the sixth and Ryan Shiffer went 2-for-3 for Toms River South.
Manchester 4, Barnegat 3: Ryan Vanderham had two RBI, Darius Garica and Steve Rodriguez each had an RBI and Ryan Bowker pitched around a two walks and a hit batsman in the seventh to pick up the save with two strikeouts as the Hawks (6-5, 5-4) knocked the Bengals (7-5, 6-3) out of a tie for first-place in Class B South.
Donovan Catholic 5, Pinelands 2: Freshman Mike Dimino scattered eight hits over six innings and allowed just one run to improve to 2-0, Mike Marron had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the first and Charlie Dimino and Steve Lazicki had run-scoring doubles in the fifth as the Griffins (9-4, 6-2) moved into a tie for first place in Class B South with Jackson Liberty and avenged a loss to the Wildcats (5-7, 4-5) this past Saturday.
TR East 2, Lacey 1: Tyler Idzinski’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth drove in the go-ahead run and Kevin Brown pitched two scoreless innings of relief as the Raiders (4-5, 4-5) defeated the Lions (5-8, 3-7) in a Class A South game..
Freehold Township 3, Freehold 0: Ralph Gambino struck out eight, walked two and threw a complete-game five-hitter as the Patriors (7-8, 3-7) defeated the Colonials (7-9, 4-7) in a Class A North game. Gambino has thrown 14 1/3 scoreless innings against Freehold this season and has allowed just one run in his last 20 1/3 innings.
Marlboro 4, Midd. North 0: Jeremy Dyzenhaus pitched a complete-game four-hitter on just 63 pitches as the No. 7 Mustangs (8-4,. 6-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over the Lions (4-8, 3-6).
Jackson Memorial 7, Howell 2: Matt Crispe hit a two-run homer in the first and went 2-for-4 with four RBI as the No. 5 Jaguars (8-4) defeated the Rebels (6-6) for their seventh straight win.
Ocean 6, Rumson-FH 1: Blake Demeter struck out 13 and pitched a complete-game five-hitter for his fourth win of the season, Anthony Bartolomei had two RBI, Sam Maxwell had two hits, scored two runs and stole two bases and Frank Henry had two hits and an RBI as the No. 10 Spartans (11-3) defeated the Bulldogs (2-8) in a nondivisional game.
Point Boro 10, Central 4: Gabe Pesante had a two-run single to highlight a five-run bottom of the first, Sam Monaco was 3-for-4 and scored two runs, Bill Feehan was 3-for-5 and scored two runs and Frank Graziano was 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Panthers (7-7, 4-6) defeated the Golden Eagles (5-7, 4-5) in a Class B South game.
Jackson Liberty 17, Lakewood 8: Mattt Pinto went 4-for-6 with four RBI to lead an 18-hit attack as the Lions (6-4, 6-2) defeated the Piners (2-10, 1-9) in a Class B South game.
Harry Brown went 3-for-5 with five RBI for Lakewood.
Ranney 8, Keansburg 4: Jon Mejia was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Corey Natofsky pitched six innings and struck out seven to pick up the win as the Panthers (2-7, 2-7) defeated the Titans (4-6, 4-6) in a Class B Central game.
Keyport 6, Henry Hudson 0: Christian Smith had a two-run single to cap a three-run second and pitched five innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts and Jake Caverly went 4-for-4 as the Red Raiders (5-5, 5-5) defeated the Admirals (1-7, 1-7) in a Class B Central game.
Shore 9, Long Branch 3: Ryan Campi pitched four scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn his first varsity win and also went 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored a run as the Blue Devils (6-6) defeated the Green Wave (2-12) in a nondivisional game.
Wall 11, Red Bank 0: Zach Wilson’s grand slam in the top of the first sent the surging Crimson Knights (9-4, 5-3) on their way to the win over the Bucs (4-8, 3-6) in a Class B North game. It was the sixth straight win for Wall.
Mater Dei Prep 12, Asbury Park 2: Cole Hardy had a two-run homer and a two-run double in a nine-run first and Liam Olausen had a solo homer in the second as the Seraphs (9-4, 8-1) defeated the Blue Bishops (0-7, 0-7) and are now tied with St. Rose (10-3, 8-1) for first place in Class B Central.
RB Catholic 11, Neptune 1: Tom Montano pitched four-hit ball over six innings and Evan Madigan went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the No. 4 Caseys (10-1, 8-1) defeated the Scarlet Fliers (2-8, 1-7) in a Class B North game.
