It appears Mark Ciccotelli is no longer the head football coach at St. John Vianney High School, according to an e-mail obtained by the Asbury Park Press Saturday night that was apparently sent by St. John Vianney athletic director Rich Lambertson Saturday afternoon to parents of players on the team and teachers in the school.
“We wish coach Ciccotelli nothing but the best with all of his future endeavors and will respect both his and his family’s right to privacy,’’ Lambertson said in the obtained e-mail.
Lambertson declined to comment Saturday night when reached by phone and said the school will release a statement Monday afternoon.
Ciccotelli did not return a phone call from the Asbury Park Press Saturday night.
St. John Vianney, bolstered by transfers from several schools around the Shore, went 10-1 last season. The Lancers captured the Shore Conference Class A Central championship and advanced to the NJSIAA Non-Public Group III semifinals in its first season under Ciccotelli. The divisional title, the wins total and the playoff win were all the first for the school since the early 1980’s
Ciccotelli was the head coach at Freehold from 2004-2010 and Neptune from 2011-2013 before he moved to St.John Vianney.
Freehold won NJSIAA Central Group III championships in 2008 and 2010 and Neptune in 2011 under Ciccotelli.
