Matt Discuillo scored the winning run on an error on Phil Saglietto’s ground ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Marlboro a 6-5 win over Middletown South Wednesday morning in a Shore Conference Class A North game.
Discuillo led off the seventh with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Steve Santigate.
Jeremy Dyzenhaus picked up the win by getting a 1-2-3, inning-ending double play with bases loaded in the top of the seventh. He came in with runners on second and third and intentionally walked the first batter he faced to set up the force play all the way around.
Marlboro (4-0, 2-0), which is 4-0 for the first time in several seasons, trailed 5-0 after 3 1/2 innings.
It pulled within 5-4 with a four-run fourth, capped by Brian Reilly’s three-run double. A run-scoring groundout by Saglietto in the fifth tied the game.
Howell 5, Freehold 4: Connor Fey’s home run in the bottom of the ninth gave the Rebels (3-1, 3-1) the win over Colonials in a Class A North game.
The homer capped a 3-for-5 day for Fey. He also scored two runs.
Howell tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Dan Matrisciano.
Matt Furlong picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Raritan 2, Shore 0: Jon Rodriguez pitched a complete-game two-hitter, struck out nine, walked six and also had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the sixth as the Rockets (3-1, 2-1) defeated the Blue Devils (2-2, 2-1) in a Class A Central game.
Shore’s Jame Kelly struck out 10, walked one and pitched a complete-game four-hitter.
Manalapan 14, Freehold Township 11: Stephen Carbonara went 3-for-3 with a four RBI, including a run-scoring single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth that broke an 8-8 tie, as the No. 9 Braves (4-1, 1-1) defeated Patriots (2-2, 1-2) in a Class A North game.
Manalapan scored nine runs in the sixth to wipe out an 8-5 deficit.
Jake Sadowitz went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI.
Joe Silvestrone went 4-for-4 with three homers and eight RBI for Freehold Township. . He-had three-run homers in the first and seventh innings, a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the second.
Colts Neck 10, Long Branch 1: Mike Antico stole four bases, went 3-for-4 with two RBI, a triple and scored two runs, Tyler Kay was 4-for-4 with a double, stole a base and scored a run and Mike D’Ottavio allowed a run on four hits over the first six innings to pick up his first varsity win as the No. 10 Cougars (4-0, 2-0) defeated the Green Wave (1-3, 1-2) in a Class B North game.
Matawan 7, Neptune 2: Adam Elliott struck out seven and pitched a four-hitter and Brian Rivera went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Huskies (2-2, 2-1) defeated the Scarlet Fliers (0-4, 0-3) in a Class B North game.
Monmouth 9, Holmdel 3: Christian Hoplock pitched five innings to pick up the win and Matt Vincenti was 2-for-4 with a double as the Falcons (2-1, 2-0) defeated the Hornets (0-3, 0-3) in a Class A Central game.
RB Catholic 15, Red Bank 6: Evan Madigan and Anthony DeRosa each had two hits and four RBI, Aaron Ahn was 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored two runs and Doug Facendo was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored two runs as the No. 5 Caseys (3-0, 3-0) defeated the Bucs (0-4, 0-3) in a Class B North game.
