MIDDLETOWN – Brandon Martorano’s single up the middle past a drawn-in infield with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Cid Porter and gave Christian Brothers Academy a 3-2 win over Manalapan on Tuesday in a Monmouth County Tournament semifinal.
CBA (17-5), the No. 2 seed and defending champion, meets No. 13 seed Wall (17-5) at 8 p.m. next Tuesday at FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood, the MCT championship game.
Martorano’s hit enabled junior right-hander Luca Dalatri to improve to 6-0 on the season and 17-0 over the last two seasons.
Dalatri struck out 12, walked one and allowed five hits while throwing 91 pitches. He also hit a solo home run to left with one out in the fourth. It was his third homer in the last five games.
Porter walked to lead off the seventh. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Matt D’Angelo’s bloop single behind first. Will Morgan was intentionally walked to load the bases before Martorano hit the first pitch for the game-winner.
Martorano, a junior catcher, scored the tying run in the bottom of the sixth after he had led off with a double to left.
A hit batsman and a walk loaded the bases with one out before Martorano scored on Ken Campbell’s ground ball to second that resulted in a 4-6 force out.
Manalapan (16-7) had taken the lead in the top of the sixth. Chris Rodriguez blooped a triple down the left field line with one out and scored on Stephen Hansen’s double to right center. Hansen scored on Jake Sadowitz’s two-out single to left.
