WASHINGTON — A woman walking her dog in Montgomery County (Md.) made an unexpected discovery.

Pattie Engel was walking her dog, Tiger, recently when she spotted something shiny on the ground. When she leaned over to pick the object up, she discovered it was a high school football championship ring.

Looking to identify an owner, Engel found a name inscribed on the ring, but didn’t recognize it.

When she showed the ring to her son-in-law, Matt, he recognized the name immediately: Stefon Diggs.

Diggs is a former Maryland Wide Receiver standout and a recent draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings.

Diggs played high school football for Good Counsel and won the ring when his team defeated DeMatha in the 2010 WCAC Championship.

WUSA9 contacted Diggs and he confirmed the ring belongs to him. He’s currently in Minnesota attending the team’s rookie mini camp.

When he returns, WUSA9 hopes to arrange a “ring reunion”.
