Marysville’s Dante Chrcek runs the ball during a football game Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Memorial Stadium in Port Huron.
Thunder and lightning was the only element that could stop Marysville and Port Huron Northern’s offense.
Before the storm rolled over Memorial Stadium to delay the game with 9:06 left in the third quarter, Marysville (0-1 overall) grabbed a 30-22 lead in the fireworks display. The rest of the game will be picked up Friday night starting at 7 p.m.
The Vikings run game was unstoppable, trampling the Huskies defense for 245 rushing yards in the first half. Junior running back Dante Chcrek was the head Viking with 118 yards and three touchdowns, and senior Ryan Ellul had 112 yards and a score in the second half.
Northern (0-1 overall) was also getting work done on offense too, being led by junior quarterback Billy Fealko. His arm gave Northern 101 yards and one touchdown through the air and his feet have picked up 45 yards on seven carries.
Northern junior running back Travis Hughes also picked up two rushing touchdowns, and junior receiver Colby Nabozny caught Fealko’s 62-yard pass for the first touchdown of the game.
Both teams were scoring touchdowns like they were getting commission off them. Marysville found the endzone on all four of its drives and had 14 runs that went for at least 10 yards. The Vikings never sent out their punter.
Northern sent its punter out just once and scored on three of four possessions.
Neither team has turned the ball over so far.
