Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) wing Katie Lou Samuelson was named on Wednesday as the WBCA High School Player of the Year.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) wing Katie Lou Samuelson was named on Wednesday as the WBCA High School Player of the Year.

Katie Lou Samuelson, a senior wing at Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif) who has signed with Connecticut, was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association High School Player of the Year on Wednesday.

Samuelson is averaging 29.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Monarchs, who are No. 2 in the Super 25 girls basketball rankings.

She also was named among the five finalists for the Naismith award, which will be presented in March.
