The Mauldin High girls’ soccer team won an important Region 2-AAAA game April 9 at Riverside. The Mavericks beat the Warriors 3-0 and improved their overall record to 9-6 including 5-3 in the region.
Meghan Edwards, Jordan Mosher and Renee Guion each tallied goals for Mauldin in the big road victory.
Ellen Bullard, in her first year as head coach at Mauldin, said the Mavericks are ranked in the top five in the state.
“We had high expectations coming into the year,” Bullard said. “Unfortunately, in some of those close games, we just didn’t get it done. We played Dorman twice and lost both 3-2.”
Bullard said the team is young this year but she doesn’t use that as an excuse. The girls are mature beyond their years, the coach said.
“As far as playing those teams and being competitive, we are there but getting it done at the end in a couple of those games just hasn’t happened,” Bullard said
The offensive standouts this season have been Samantha Britt, Edwards and Mosher, Bullard said. She added the defense is led by sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Hornaday and the back four are rock solid.
Mauldin had games scheduled this week at Spartanburg Tuesday and Friday at Byrnes.
