The Holy Savior Menard boys golf team got off to a great start this season after taking the opening Cenla High School Golf League match by 13 strokes over runners-up Pineville and Natchitoches Central at the Oak Wing Golf Club Monday.
The Eagles were led by Charlie Flynn’s nine-hole score of 36, while Thomas Wilmore posted a 44 to join him in the top five. Rounding out Menard’s totals were Alex Trotter with a score of 45, Nick Grabowski with 46 and Ben Vanderlick with 47.
Flynn tied NCHS golfer Cole Kendrick for the top score as Kendrick headed a Chiefs group that also had Trey Llorence shooting a 44 — good for a tie for fourth. Adding on to the Chiefs’ performance were CJ Bouchie (51), Kolby Carter (53) and Lyndon Kneuppell (55).
Pineville placed a pair of golfers in the top 10 as Josh Spurgeon claimed third place with 42 and Garrett McDonald tied for ninth with 46. The Rebels also had five players shooting at most 50 strokes with Zach Ross earning a 47, Austin Maxwell getting a 49, Connor Westbrook shooting a 50.
Led by Caleb LeMoine’s 53, Buckeye claimed fourth in the team standings with a score of 226. LeMoine was followed by Christian Bass with 54, Trell Dewey with 58, Dylan Thomas with 61 and Jase Warren with 66.
Grace Christian took home fifth with Seth and Riley O’Quinn scoring 52 and 54, respectively.
Playing unattached were Menard’s Brooks Anderson with a score of 44 and Grant’s Justin Carter with 45 to both also make the top 10. Alexandria Senior High’s Jared Arceneaux (52) and Jacob North (54), Grant’s Sam Tarpley (55), Menard’s Jonathon Wilmore (56) and Oakdale’s John Williams (56) and Andrew Sao (70) rounded out the unattached group.
