Arkansas State’s distance runners participated in the Mt. Sac Relays this weekend, and two set new A-State records, including former Mountain Home standout Wil Norris breaking the school record in the 10,000-meter run.
The old mark in the 10K had stood since 1977 when Darrell Burns clocked a 30:40.24. Norris recorded a time of 30:34.85, beating the record by almost 6 seconds.
Tilda Helgesson improved her own A-State record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by nearly 6 seconds, posting a time of 10:45.93, a time that ranks her first among Sun Belt Conference athletes to date.
After several consecutive weeks of competition, the majority of the A-State track and field team took the weekend off to prepare for the home meet and the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
The teams host the Red Wolves Open at 3 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the A-State Track and Field Complex.
