CAAC BLUE

EAST LANSING

Last season: 2nd

Top golfers: Jackie Bertsch (sr.), Rena Boyd, Kathleen Cleary, Lena Mefford

Outlook: The Trojans lost three strong senior golfers from a team that placed 12th at the state meet last season. Bertsch is a returning all-league golfer.

GRAND LEDGE

Last season: 5th

Top golfers: Veronica Mills (sr.), Maddie McKinney, Katie Ransom, Kaylee Hirshman, Lauren Mida

Outlook: Mills is a returning all-league golfer for the Comets.

HOLT

Coach: Doug Harkema (15th season)

Last season: 3rd

Top returning golfers: Ashley Folleth (sr.), Lauren Sanford (sr.), Alicia McElroy (sr.), Alaina McFarland (jr.)

Other contributors: Emily Sabrosky (jr.), Kaylee Carpenter (jr.), Ella Brown (fr.)

Outlook: The Rams have four varsity players returning including Folleth, who has qualified for the state meet as an individual the last two seasons. Holt will be counting on its newcomers as it aims to compete for a league title.

OKEMOS

Coach: Dan Stolz (7th season)

Last season: 1st

Top returning golfers: Jessica Kim (sr.), Kaylie Anderson (sr.), Macy Dahnke (sr.), Lauren Kim (so.), Christine Maisner (sr.)

Outlook: The Chiefs are in pursuit of a fifth straight CAAC Blue title and another top-five finish at the state meet. Okemos has several key returners in Jessica Kim, Anderson and Dahnke and Stolz believes experience and hard work could lead to another strong season.

SEXTON

Coach: Chris Henderson (15th season)

Last season: 6th

Top returning golfers: Sydney Morrell, Michelle Xiong (sr.), Gabby Rocha (sr.), Yasmeen Mack (sr.)

Other contributors: Sophia Norton (so.), Jonae Moorer (so.)

Outlook: The Big Reds have a strong senior-led team that is looking to compete while also helping in building the golf program.

CAAC RED

Coaches’ predictions: St. Johns, DeWitt, Mason, Haslett, Owosso, Waverly

Top golfer: Abby Murray, St. Johns

DEWITT

Coach: Dave Koenigsknecht (3rd season)

Last season: 1st

Top returning golfers: Elaina DeRose (so.), Mackenzie Smith (so.), Taylor Villareal (sr.)

Other contributors: Hannah Fogel (jr.), Erin Chapko (so.), Rilee Smith (so.), Morgan Colby (fr.), Lexie Brya (so.)

Outlook: The Panthers lost four seniors from last year’s league championship team and are very young this fall. Villareal is the only senior for DeWitt, which hopes to be competitive with most teams.

HASLETT

Coach: Chris Mory (1st season)

Last season: 4th

Top returning golfers: Kayla Harris, Autumn Cole, Emma Rice

Outlook: The Vikings are young but Mory sees a lot of potential in his roster and is looking forward to seeing progress throughout the season.

MASON

Coach: Kirk Petee

Top golfers: Audrey Wassner (jr.), Claudia Vondra, Callie Williams, Delaney Bond

Outlook: Wassner and Williams each are returning all-league golfers for the Bulldogs.

OWOSSO

Coach: B.J. Zwolensky (14th season)

Last season: 1-7, 1-5 CAAC Red (5th)

Top returning golfers: Mary Basso (sr.), Morgan Kalisek (so.)

Outlook: The Trojans will field a young team but are striving to be more competitive this season.

ST. JOHNS

Outlook: Murray and Eccleton are talented returning sophomores that have the Redwings optimistic this could be the season they capture their first league title.

WAVERLY

CAAC WHITE

Top golfers: Evelyn Velasco (Ionia), Abigail Meder (Lansing Catholic)

IONIA

Coach: Doug Tackmann (13th season)

Last season: 6-6-1 (3rd)

Top returning golfers: Evelyn Velasco (sr.), Maddie Castle (jr.)

Outlook: Velasco is a three-year starter and was an all-league performer last fall. She had a 94 average in 18 hole events last season and will lead Ionia.

LANSING CATHOLIC

Coach: Kim Johnson (1st season)

Last season: T-1st

Top returning golfers: Abigail Meder (jr.), Grace Castle (so.), Isabelle Johns (jr.), Elaina Walling (sr.), Keighen Morley (jr.)

Outlook: Meder earned all-state recognition last fall, while Castle, Johns, Walling and Morley are returning all-league golfers for the Cougars, who are aiming for a repeat in the CAAC White.

PORTLAND

Coach: Sarah Honsowitz (10th season)

Last season: T-1st

Top returning golfers: Macey Seal (sr.), Megan Kapcia (sr.)

Other contributors: Chloe Adams (sr.), Allison Sandbrook (so.), Taylor Trierweiler (so.), Rachel Kapcia (so.)

Outlook: The Raiders have three returning golfers with varsity experience back from a team that captured a league title last fall. Honsowitz has noticed constant improvement from her team and is looking forward to seeing how the fall evolves.

WILLIAMSTON

Coach: Bob Burnt (9th season)

Last season: 2-6 (3rd)

Top returning golfers: Hannah Kent (sr.), Anna Bowling (jr.)

Outlook: Kent and Bowling are veterans on a Hornet team that has a lot of new faces and some individuals new to golf this fall.

GLAC

Coaches’ predictions: Lakewood, Perry, Stockbridge, Olivet

Top golfer: Emily Barker, Lakewood

LAKEWOOD

Coach: Carl Kutch (14th season)

Last season: 12-0 (1st)

Top returning golfers: Emily Barker (sr.), Maranda Barton (jr.), Taylor Hopkins (sr.)

Other contributors: Kate Richmond (jr.), Kayla Blair (sr.)

Outlook: Kutch believes another special year is possible if his team can stay on a path of steady improvement. Lakewood, which returns one of the area’s best golfers in Barker, hopes to repeat as league champs and contend for a regional title.

OLIVET

Last season: 3rd

Top golfers: Logan McLane, Emily McAdam, Maddy Kidder, Allie Kramer, Jasmine Gingrich

Outlook: McLane, Kramer and McAdam are returning all-league golfers for the Eagles.

PERRY

Coach: Jake Baumgartner (12th season)

Last season: 10-7 (2nd)

Top returning golfers: Kelsi Allen (sr.), Lindsay Waller (jr.), Logan Slee (jr.), Sarah Mattison (so.)

Other contributors: Grace Knickerbocker (fr.)

Outlook: Allen leads a group of four returning starters for the Ramblers. Baumgartner has been encouraged by how his team has worked to improve their games.

STOCKBRIDGE

Top golfers: Samantha Rattai, Calla Coleman, Alexis Hansen, Shannon Smith, Victoria Rattai, Melanie Clark

ALMA

CHARLOTTE

Last season: 7th Interstate 8

Top returning golfers: Christin Landis (sr.), Malia Cicorelli (sr.), Lizzy Fisher (so.), Angel Sommer (jr.)

Other contributors: Lexi Harris (sr.), Daynan Johnson (so.), Dayle Braden (jr.), Alley Lahr (jr.)

Outlook: Landis is a returning all-leaguer and state qualifier and Fisher also earned all-Interstate Eight honors last fall. That duo and seniors Cicorelli and Harris have the Orioles optimistic they can be competitive in their league this season.

CORUNNA

Coach: Patrick Springer (3rd season)

Last season: 6-5

Top returning golfers: Ava Ringheisen (jr.), Brooke Brandt (sr.), Cheyenne Hansen (sr.)

Other contributors: Stephanie Scott (jr.), Jada Alvarado (sr.)

Outlook: Ringheisen leads the returners for the Cavaliers this fall. Springer expects his team to improve daily through hard work and attention to detail.

ITHACA
