Mitchell wresting coach Ed Duncan and three of his athletes are in Fargo, N.D., this week for the USA Wrestling national championship tournament.

No resting on any laurels here.

Mitchell became the first Western North Carolina wrestling program to win a NCHSAA tournament and dual team playoff championship in the same season last winter.

Three Mountaineers athletes along with two-time Citizen-Times All-WNC Coach of the Year Ed Duncan have been involved with the USA Wrestling national championship tournament this past week in Fargo, N.D.

Special thanks to Mitchell for this update:

Three Mitchell wrestlers were among the 31 wrestlers representing North Carolina in the Asics/Vaughan National Wrestling Championships in Fargo, ND this year.

Returning state champion Dalton Beaver, and state runner-up Solomon Duncan competed in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle tournaments. Peyton Greene competed in Freestyle only.

Greene finished 0-2 in the competition freestyle competition, while Duncan and Beaver were both 3-4 overall.
All three will be rising seniors at Mitchell High.
