As National Signing Day nears, the top target for the Missouri Tigers is East St.Louis’ Terry Beckner, Jr. Beckner, a 6-4 298 pound defensive tackle, is ranked as ESPN’ top recruit for the Class of 2015.
In a radio interview on Wednesday, Darren Sunkett, the coach at East St.Louis, told Frank Cusumano that he believed “Missouri is sitting in the driver’s seat right now.” He went on to say that, “They were the first to actually offer him a scholarship. They’re definitely the front-runner right now. They are doing everything they’re supposed to to land this guy.”
Missouri has been selling Beckner on the recent run of success they have had in putting defensive lineman in the NFL. Aldon Smith, Ziggy Hood, Sheldon Richardson, Kony Ealy were all first or second round picks, and Shane Ray is projected to be another in the upcoming draft.
“That definitely helps,” Sunkett said, “Mizzou has shown a track record for producing D-linemen and making them NFL prospects. In my opinion, Mizzou is definitely the front-runner,”
Sunkett also informed Cusumano that Mizzou commit Nate Strong graduated East St.Louis early and has enrolled at Hinds Community College to iron out his academics. He hopes to be at Mizzou in 2016.
