A fired Montverde Academy (Fla.) assistant basketball coach was arrested last week after police said he refused to leave campus after he was dismissed, according to a report.
Robert Hines-Lewis was released from the Lake County jail after posting bond of $6,000 on the charges of trespassing and resisting arrest, the Daily Commercial in Leesburg, Fla., reported. Hines-Lewis lived in a home on campus as part of his employment contract but refused to vacate after he was fired.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called and Hines-Lewis struggled with deputies during his arrest and yelled at them as they tried to search him for weapons. He was taken to the ground and then arrested.
The school declined to say why he was fired but confirmed that he was on the basketball staff.
Hines-Lewis played for St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth, N.J., when current Montverde coach Kevin Boyle was the coach there. After several college stops, he graduated from St. Francis (N.Y.) in 2008 and then played professionally in Europe.
Montverde has been the Super 25 national champion for three consecutive years.
