Erwin’s Malik Moore and North Buncombe’s Daniel Burchette (34) were teammates in Monday night’s East-West All-Star boys basketball game in Greensboro.

The Greensboro Coliseum’s scoreboard may have blown a fuse or two Monday night.

Erwin alum Malik Moore (17 points) and North Buncombe alum Daniel Burchette (14 points, three assists) reached double digits in the highest-scoring boys basketball game in East-West All-Star history.

Led by Northern Durham Kentrell Barkley’s 26 points and 11 rebounds, the East was the winning team, 122-115.

Moore (2014) and Burchette (2015) have been the past two Citizen-Times All-WNC Players of the Year and Mountain Athletic Conference Players of the Year. Each recent graduate has signed with a South Carolina college as a guard/forward – Moore will be continuing his career at South Carolina Upstate, while Burchette will play for North Greenville.

Erwin’s David Rhoney was the head coach for the West boys on Monday.
