St. John’s baseball coach Ed Blankmeyer has been named the manager of USA Baseball’s 2015 collegiate national team.
The most successful coach in St. John’s baseball history, Blankmeyer has posted a 647-405-3 (.615) record, three Big East Tournament titles, and eight NCAA Tournament appearances in his previous 19 seasons at the helm. Also the most successful coach in the Big East with 287 conference victories, Blankmeyer has had 65 of his players drafted or signed to professional contracts.
“I am extremely honored and excited to be selected to manage the USA Baseball collegiate national team,” Blankmeyer, a Morris Twp. resident, said in a press release. “We have an outstanding schedule lined up and I am looking forward to both working with and learning from the amazing coaching staff that we have assembled. Above all else, I feel privileged to represent the United States of America.”
As an assistant coach in 2010, Blankmeyer helped the collegiate national team go 16-3 and earn a silver medal at the V FISU World University Baseball Championships in Tokyo.
