St. Stanislaus 62, Lawrence County 28
MONTICELLO — St. Stanislaus quarterback Myles Brennan threw for 551 yards and accounted for eight touchdowns as the Rockachaws rolled Lawrence County 62-28 to win the 4A South State title.
Brennan completed 31 of 42 pass attempts and completed seven touchdown passes to four different receivers. Owen Betz caught scoring passes of 53, 27 and 63 yards.
Lawrence County (13-2) kept pace with four first-half touchdowns, but failed to score in the second half. St. Stanislaus will face Noxubee County (11-4) in the 4A Championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday in Oxford.
Stanislaus responded to Lawrence County’s early score on a 57-yard touchdown run by Ahmed Brown with three quick scores. Brennan and Betz hooked up for their first touchdown, then Corbin Blanchard caught a 55-yard touchdown pass. Mason Favre’s blocked punt and recovery in the end zone made it 21-7 Rochachaws at the end of the first quarter.
Simmons 46, Smithville 0
At Smithville, Simmons kept the offense rolling with a 46-0 win over Smithville to claim the North 1A title. Traveon Nelson and Marquez Pam combined for 333 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. The Blue Devils (11-0) led the Seminoles (13-2) 18-0 at the half and 39-0 after three quarters. They’ll face Resurrection (13-0) in the 1A Championship at 11 a.m. Friday in Oxford.
Bassfield 43, Bay Springs 28
At Bay Springs, Bassfield pulled away late for a 43-28 win over the Bulldogs to repeat as 2A South State champs. Gerald Reese Jr.’s 19-yard touchdown run put the Yellowjackets (13-2) ahead 14-0 but Bay Springs cut into that lead to 22-14 after quarterback Caderius Lee dove into the end zone from a yard out just before halftime. The Bulldogs (12-3) tied the game with a touchdown on their first drive of the second half, but Rontario Thompson’s 55-yard touchdown run by Bassfield back on top for good. The Yellowjackets will face East Webster in the 2A Championship at 3 p.m. Friday in Oxford.
