MURFREEBORO – Senior Chelsea Ross was selected to the 2015 Conference USA preseason team while Middle Tennessee was selected eighth in the preseason poll as announced by the league office on Thursday.
For Ross, it’s the third consecutive year the Murfreesboro native and former Riverdale High School player was selected to the all-preseason squad after having a stellar 2014 campaign, officials said.
The outside hitter ranked third in C-USA in kills per set (4.59), points per set (5.10) and second in kills (280) and points (311) en route to earning a spot on the All-C-USA first team list.
“We certainly expect Chelsea to have another stellar year,” head coach Matt Peck said in a release. “Fortunately we have more and better players around her than we’ve had in the past.
“We relied on her quite a bit due to the injuries we had last year, but this season we’ll be able to use other players as well. I feel Chelsea is the premiere six-rotation player in the conference.”
The Blue Raiders were picked eighth in the preseason poll, while defending C-USA champions Western Kentucky took home the first place slot with Texas-San Antonio holding down the second spot.
Rice and North Texas were selected third and fourth respectively, and Florida Atlantic rounding out the top five.
MTSU will begin the season playing nine of its first 12 games at home, including the Blue Raider Bash that will kick off the season for the Blue Raiders.
The Blue Raiders will square off against Cleveland State in the season opener Aug. 28.
