Mustang Midfielder, Pryor, has verbally committed to the University of Denver for lacrosse
KUSA — Mullen Mustangs, Michael Pryor, committed to the University of Denver Pioneers for men’s lacrosse (2015 NCAA Division I defending National Champions) Wednesday, July 15.
Pryor told 9NEWS, “I decided to go to DU because it is close to home; it’s an excellent school that will help me set up my future and they have an excellent lacrosse program.”
He said that since he was younger he had been a fan of the Pioneers, going to their stadium and watching their games. Pryor was put in touch with the Pioneers lacrosse team, after they had won the 2015 national championship, by a coach at Mullen close to DU Associate Head Coach Matt Brown.
“I’ll be playing midfielder, but I’m not sure whether it will be offense or defense,” Pryor said. “They told me I can probably play either.”
Pryor played 15 games in his junior year with the Mustangs. He scored 24 goals on 48 shots, tallied 4 assists, and
won 17 ground balls. Pryor was the leading scorer on the Mustangs boys lacrosse team last season. He was considering offers from a few Division III schools and the Air Force Academy prior to verbally committing to the University of Denver.
The Mustangs finished the season 6-10. They beat the talented Arapahoe Warriors 14-13 and the Colorado Academy Mustangs 11-9. They fell in the first round of playoffs to the Monarch Coyotes 15-14 in overtime.
“They’re are a lot of starters coming back,” Pryor said in reference to hopes for next year. “I have high expectations for the team and I see big things for our school”
