On Wednesday afternoon, the No. 12 seed Wildcats earned the first girls volleyball NJSIAA victory in school history with a 2-1 triumph over No. 21 seed Sterling in a Group II first round game.
The Wildcats (17-7) recored game scores of 25-20, 22-25 and 25-16 to move onto the second round of the Group II bracket.
Leading the way on Wednesday was Pinelands’ Morgan Mulligan (15 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Jessie Rising (25 assists, 8 digs, 4 kills, 2 aces), Jamie Mulligan (12 digs, 6 kills, 5 aces) and Sydney Burke (9 digs, 5 kills, 4 aces, 2 assists).
The Wildcats will play at No. 5 seed Pascack Hills on Friday.
IN OTHER NJSIAA GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Wall 2, WWPN 0: The No. 6 seed Crimson Knights’ (25-2) Jess Stansfield had 10 kills and 11 digs while Regan Murphy had 20 assists and four digs and Katrina Hand had five kills and six digs in the Group III match win over the 27th-seeded Knights (12-15).
Toms River East 2, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 1: Jaime Sweeney had 25 assists and seven digs, Shannon Veale had 14 kills and 17 digs and Lauren Horbacewicz had nine kills 20 digs and four blocks for the No. 13 seed Raiders (19-4) in a Group III match.
Southern 2, Morristown 0: Alexa Cacacie had seven kills, two blocks and six digs, Kourtney Klimek added five kills and two aces and Olivia Maxwell had seven assists as the No. 10 seed Rams (18-10) defeated No. 23 seed Morristown in a Group IV match.
Toms River South 2, Millburn 0: Danielle Ferreri had 15 kills and eight digs, Sam Allen had 28 assists and four digs and Shaniyah Taylor had 11 kills as the No. 12 seed Indians (19-5) won the Group III match.
Red Bank Catholic 2, Wardlaw-Hartridge 0: Sara Benjamin had 15 assists and four aces, Amanda Murphy had nine digs and Ava Zockoll had seven kills and five digs for the No. 5 seed Caseys (19-6) in a Non-Public match.
Barnegat 2, Dumont 0: The No. 8 seed Bengals (17-5) were led by Emma Lloyd’s 15 assists, two digs and two aces, Amy Bruno’s seven kills, two blocks, two digs and Morgan Ridgway’s seven kills and six digs in their Group II match.
J.P. Stevens 2, Toms River North 0: Bianca Galis had 14 assists, Gianna Addalli had 12 digs and Amanda Irwin had seven kills for the No. 13 seed Mariners (14-8) in the Group IV match.
Kinnelon 2, Point Beach 0: Erinne Regan had 16 assists, Maddie White had 14 kills and six digs and Alexa Fant had nine digs and two assists for the No. 27 seed Garnet Gulls in the Group I match.
IN NJSIAA FIELD HOCKEY SECTIONAL SEMIFINALS
Wall 5, Ocean 1: Senior Sam Scire had one goal, which was a penalty stroke at 41:07, and two assists, junior Emily Surgent had two goals and Bernadette Crehan and Hanna Zarrilli each had one goal as the No. 1 seed Crimson Knights (20-1) edged the No. 5 seed Spartans (13-6-1) in a Central Group II game. Senior Laird Dunn had four saves as Wall outshot Ocean, 15-5. Ocean’s Maddie Dietrich scored at 12:31 to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead as Morgan Hendley assisted on the play and Caroline Rogers (seven saves) and Evi Mendez (three saves) each played goalie.
Rumson-Fair Haven 12, Robbinsville 1: Madison Maguire had five goals and two assists, Maggie Jennings had two goals and two assists, Lily Croddick had two goals and one assist, Makenna Maguire had one goal and two assists and Alexandra DeVito made three saves as the No. 1 seed Bulldogs (21-0) toppled the No. 3 seed Ravens (13-2-3) in a Central Group II game.
Freehold 4, Middletown South 0: Julie Keelan had one goal and three assists while Tori Tiefenthaler added one goal and one assist and Isabell Reynoso made five saves as the No. 1 seed Colonials (13-1-2) defeated the No. 5 seed Eagles (11-9-1) in a North 2 Group III game. Middletown South’s Elissa Frantino made four saves.
Jackson Memorial 4, Monroe 2: Chloe Daum had two goals and one assist, Amanda Miller added one goal and one assist and Kayla Skodmin had one goal and Morgan Novak made four saves for the No. 3 seed Jaguars (15-2-2) in a Central Group IV game.
St. Joseph-Hammonton 3, Red Bank Catholic 1: Junior Olivia D’Angelo scored at 45:27 and junior Maryann Santulli had the assist while junior Siobhan Cottell made 31 saves for the No. 8 seed Caseys in the Non-Public South A loss.
Summit 2, Middletown North 0: The No. 2 seed Lions’ (12-7-1) Emily Kernan had 12 saves in a North 2 Group III loss to the No. 3 seed Hilltoppers (15-7).
