County champs. District champs. Six in a row.

The Golden Eagles once again showed their dominance with a 48-14 victory over host Barron Collier for the District 6A-12 championship.

Naples beat the Cougars for the 17th straight time.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Naples coach Bill Kramer said. “That’s awesome. I’m proud of the guys, they played real hard tonight. They were physical fast and played in control.”

While Barron Collier did a decent job on Naples’ tailback Carlin Fils-Aime (22 carries, 147 yards, one TD), that opened things up for Marcelino Charles (11 carries, 144 yards, two TDs).

“Carlin’s a dominant guy, a difference maker,” Kramer said. “They did everything they could to stop him. Credit our offensive line. And Marce is a good player.”

Quarterback Kieran DiGiorno overcame two interceptions by Barron Collier’s Brock Nichols to throw three touchdown passes. Wide receiver Wooby Theork added four catches for 99 yards and two TDs while Naples had special teams touchdown to start the game and end the first half. Kramer called those game-breakers.

Naples struck first on star Tyler Byrd’s block a Cougars’ punt, which Robert Green picked up and took 14 yards for the score.

A Fils-Aime 10-yard run made it 14-0 before Barron Collier rallied.

Then, tailback Jamel Davis somehow kept his balance, bounced forward and took off on a 72-yard scoring run.

On the Cougars’ next drive, Nathan Doyle burst up the middle for a 30-yard TD run. However, the play was called back by a motion penalty.

Naples took over after that. Charles had a 56-yard TD, Kieran DiGiorno hit Lucas Lee For a 9-yard TD pass and then with 3 seconds left in the first half, the Golden Eagles faked a field goal and DiGiorno hit Theork for a 28-yard scoring play.

Charles, who added a 1-yard TD in second half said, “I did what I do best, score.

“It feels great. We worked hard the whole offseason and this was our goal and we accomplished it.”
