The Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.) football team has won the CIF City Section football championship in three of the last four years. And if its performance in 7 on 7 this summer was any indication, the Gauchos might not be done yet.
Narbonne won the prestigious 20-team Bash at the Beach in Huntington Beach on Saturday, beating Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 20-14 in overtime and St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 12-0 along the way and downing Los Alamitos 30-6 in the title game.
But with every victory comes perspective. As this tweet from coach Manny Douglas shows, Narbonne won the tournament and broke the trophy.
Ten of the 11 starters on offense return, led by QB Roman Ale, and the defense will be led by a ballhawking group of defensive backs. In all, 19 players return. The Gauchos only lost once all day to host Edison.
Narbonne gets a test in its Sept. 4 season opener against visiting Long Beach Poly.
