MONROE – The West Ouachita Chiefs (3-1) put up a brave fight, but the size and depth of Class 5A’s Natchitoches Central Chiefs (3-1) proved too much as West Ouachita fell for the first time on the season 41-21 on Friday at West Ouachita’s A.R. “Red” Sims Stadium.
Natchitoches Central senior quarterback Austin Guy put on a show as he had eight carries for 111 yards with three rushing touchdowns while completing 4 for 10 passes for 108 yards with two touchdowns.
West Ouachita started the game red hot as junior quarterback Hunter Chatham froze the Natchitoches Central defense on a fake hand off and raced 69-yards down the right side of the Natchitoches Central defense for a touchdown. West Ouachita kicker Aaron Davis was successful on the point after as score stood 7-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Natchitoches Central took the ensuing kickoff and received fair field position to start its first drive of the game. Natchitoches Central was able to move the ball down to the West Ouachita 7-yard line where Guy tossed the ball to receiver Gary Powell for a 7-yard touchdown.
Natchitoches Central missed the extra point so the score stood 7-6 in favor of West Ouachita with 7:04 remaining in the opening quarter.
Guy scored the Chiefs’ next three touchdowns. First, hey scampered up the middle of the Chiefs’ defense for a 31-yard touchdown run with 1:49 remaining in the first. The second Guy touchdown came on a 45-yard touchdown run with 11:12 remaining in the half to give Natchitoches Central a 20-7 advantage at the half.
Guy’s third touchdown came a minute and 32 seconds in the second half when the senior quarterback danced his way for a 19-yard score to give Natchitoches Central a commanding 27-7 lead.
Chatham led West Ouachita’s rushing attack with six carries for 64 yards with one touchdown while Andrew Lockhart added 13 carries for 62 yards. Kaleb finished the game with six rushes for 26 yards.
Next week, West Ouachita will host the Caldwell Parish Spartans in its final game before starting District 2-4A play. The Spartans will visit West Ouachita’s A.R. “Red” Sims Stadium on Friday with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
The Natchitoches Central will return home and host the District 2-4A’s Franklin Parish Patriots on Thursday, October 1 at Northwestern State University’s Turpin Stadium.
