N.C. State is the latest major Division I college football program to pounce on Reynolds senior Rico Dowdle.
The Wolfpack offered a scholarship Tuesday night, according to Rockets coach Shane Laws.
Dowdle has scored a Western North Carolina-best 38 combined touchdowns in eight games for Reynolds (7-1, 3-0).
He has carried the ball 154 times for 1,567 yards and 31 touchdowns while completing 79 of his 102 passing attempts for 791 yards and seven touchdowns with three interceptions.
Dowdle was a Citizen-Times All-WNC running back last season and the 2014 Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He has since converted to quarterback.
Dowdle also holds ACC offers from Boston College and Wake Forest along with an SEC offer from Vanderbilt.
“In my opinion, he’s the best (football) athlete in the state,” Laws said.
“He has definitely played well enough to get this kind of recognition. A lot of kids want to play at the Division I level. Unfortunately, it takes a certain kind of talent. And Rico has all that and more.”
