The 2016 Name of the Year tournament is still months away, but it may as well already be over. Meet DiCaprio Bootle, a Florida born-and-bred football player who is headed to the University of Nebraska.
Bootle committed to Nebraska on Thursday after previously attending the school’s satellite camp. The Miami Southridge star has yet to take an official visit to Lincoln, but is headed there this coming weekend.
“It’s a major Division I program,” Bootle told Husker Online of Nebraska’s initial interest in him. “I grew up watching Nebraska football, and a Big Ten team just won the national championship. I feel like Nebraska would be a great place for me.
“I attended their Florida satellite camp and it went well. I had a chance to display my skills to the coaches and really show them my speed. I ran a 4.34 40 there.”
The recruiting action on Bootle is anything but overwhelming, but the stats on the young man are pretty remarkable. He’s already known as one of the fastest athletes in the state of Florida, as that self-confirmed 4.34 40-yard dash is testament to. Add to that a fierce twitter handle — @_flightsdelayed , get it? — and you have all the makings of an internet legend.
Rest assured, Cornhusker fans. Bottle is no postmodern football recruiting Sidd Finch. He’s the real deal, even if his name is a bit too good to be true.
