Neenah Rockets head to state tennis

The Neenah girls’ tennis team is headed back to the state tournament for the fourth year in a row.

The Rockets scored 50 points to win the WIAA Division 1 sectional championship on Thursday, easily outscoring second-place Oshkosh West (35).

Neenah’s Kiki Risgaard finished first at No. 1 singles and the Rockets’ No. 1 doubles team of Kendra Kappes and Christina Price finished second to advance to the individual state tournament, which will be Oct. 15-17 in Madison. The team tournament is the following weekend.

The top four finishers at No. 1 singles and doubles and the top finisher at No. 2 singles and doubles automatically advance to individual state. Additional qualifiers will be named based on sectional results around the state.

Appleton East’s Parker Hunstiger also advanced to state by finishing fourth at No. 1 singles.

Jordyn Lawatsch was second at No. 2 singles, Megan Nasr was first at No. 3 singles and Ellie Callahan was first at No. 4 singles for Neenah.

Neenah’s No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Dorsey and Andrea Galloway finished second and the No. 3 doubles team of Anna Beyer and Amanda Dorsey took first.

Appleton North’s Taylor Stirm was second at No. 3 singles.

Appleton West’s No. 1 doubles team of Grace Ourada and Claudia Meyers and Appleton East’s No. 1 doubles team of Roseanne Nooren and Daria Van De Loo both lost their first match.

At Oshkosh, the Wildcats topped the Patriots 24-26, 25-13, 25-6, 25-13.

Megan Schweitzer had 29 digs for Appleton East.

Kaukauna 3,

Oshkosh North 1

At Kaukauna, the Ghosts knocked off the Spartans 21-25, 25-9, 27-25, 25-15.

Mikayla Stumpf had 18 kills and 16 digs for the Ghosts.

At Appleton, the Papermakers beat the Terrors 25-9, 25-13, 25-21.

Kayla Wirth had 23 assists and Paige Schuh had 25 digs for the Papermakers.

Fond du Lac 0

At Fond du Lac, the Polar Bears beat the Cardinals 27-25, 25-21, 26-24.

Madi Walter had 13 kills and 13 digs for the Polar Bears. Brittany Sager had 28 assists.
